We stayed at the kona surf hotel. We were there for almost three weeks. My parents and i feel in love with the pottery steak house that was in kona.We frequented the restaurant almost every evening. My parents became great friend's with the owners dawn and gordon bartsch.
We have quite a collection of their phenomenal ceramic pottery. We also have the history of their pottery, a copy of the original menu, and an original business card. This is a gem of a set.
They are not only beautiful to behold in the stunning yellow glaze, but demonstrate a technical mastery in ceramics. They are most unusual for the extremely thin cast. They average 85 grams each, less than 3 ounces.
The wall thickness is similar to the print out paper on my printer or to put it another way they are thinner than the finest european porcelain casting thickness. Technically speaking i cannot imagine how they were removed from the mold with out numerous losses or why glaze compression did not crush them when they were fired. The carafe or gourd is 2.2 lbs. It is 10" tall with the widest circumference of 20".
The six goblets are 5 1/4 tall. The yellow "drip like" glaze is just gorgeous. The set is one of a kind and we would consider it museum quality.
This set was never used. Please see the photos to complete the description. Thanks so much for checking out our etsy shop. This item is made of ceramic.
