Rare timo sarpaneva iittala cobalt blue carafe decanter. Timo sarpaneva (1926-2006) was an international force in finnish design. A designer, sculptor and educator, sarpaneva's pioneering glass work merged art with utilitarian design. That helped to pioneer finland's global design reputation.

Sarpaneva's works are exhibited internationally (and is included in the british museum's permanent collection). Throughout his long collaboration with iittala, sarpaneva was responsible for creating key hallmarks of the company's style. He designed the i logo which serves as the symbol of the company. This gorgeous carafe is exemplary of his work with its clean lines and ease of function.

The color of cobalt blue is however a bit inaccurate. To be exact, this cobalt blue has just a touch of gray in it which makes it a step away from the'customary' cobalt blue and seems to add a bit of subdued elegance to this unique finnish blue color. The carafe is in near excellent condition with two exceptions. There is a small bubble burst chip on the bowl about midway (see photo #10).

There is also a tiny production bubble that can't even be seen on any of the photos it's so small. Iittala collectors, timo sarpaneva collectors in particular will love adding this rare beauty to their exclusive collection. Dimensions: 8" x 6" (to edge of spout) approx.
