Stunning, vintage, French, Saint-Jean-la-Poterie de Bretagne, Eau-de-vie Carafe set with tray. Circa 1950's

Eau-de-vie is a french phrase meaning "the water of life" and is the name given to strong, often homemade, wine or brandy based spirit. In normandy and brittany, france, the long held tradition is to distill apple juice from the many orchards, to produce a spirit known as eau-de-vie. It would have been taken in these small cups, due to its strength and is still very popular today, throughout france. Saint-jean-la-poterie is in the town of saint jean, in southern brittany, which is famous for its handmade and crafted pottery. Comprising a handmade and hand painted ceramic tray with 8 eau-du-vie cups and carafe.
The set is in generally very good condition, with no damage. The set shows typical handmade and hand glazed marks and small variations in the pattern. Quintessentially french and a stunning and unique addition to any home. Tray and carafe painted "st jean de bretagne fait main" and "1018 cb". Total weight of set - 1.224kg.
