Eau-de-vie is a french phrase meaning "the water of life" and is the name given to strong, often homemade, wine or brandy based spirit. In normandy, france, the long held tradition is to distill apple juice from the many orchards, to produce a spirit known as eau-de-vie. It would have been taken in these very small glasses, due to its strength and is still very popular today, throughout france. Comprising an art deco style glass tray, 12 eau-du-vie tumblers and carafe. The set is in generally very good condition, with only light surface scratching and tarnishing due to age, cleaning and use.
The set shows typical depression glass, moulding marks, bubbles and roughness to moulded edges. Quintessentially french and a stunning addition to any home.
