RARE Nanny Still REX Carafe and Stopper, Cobalt Blue and Clear, Riihimäen Lasi Oy Vintage 1964 Modernist Blown Art Glass Made in Finland

  

Stunning hand blown "rex" art glass carafe with matching stopper by famous artist, nanny still, for riihimäen lasi oy of finland. Vintage 1964 modernist bold design is hand blown of two-tone cased deep cobalt blue in clear crystal. The base is clear with tiny, tiny bubbles throughout.

The matching stopper has a biomorphic glob of cased blue glass and is ground by hand to fit the decanter perfectly. Finnish industrial designer and glass artist nancy still (1926-2009) joined riihimäen lasi oy in 1949 and was a chief designer for the company, and remained until 1996 when the factory stopped producing artisanal glass. Still is perhaps best known for her designs and techniques in glass; however, she was also an accomplished sculptor and her designs can be found in jewelry, crockery and cutlery. This rare and gorgeous vessel is perfect for dining and entertaining, or to add to a collection for display.

Pattern: rex, designed in 1964-1965 by nanny still. Produced 1965-1967 by riihimäen lasi oy (1910-1990), riihimaki, finland. Size: total height 9 1/8" x 4 5/8" wide 18-oz 4 lbs.

Condition: very good - used - lustrous clear glass; light scratches and scuffs; no chips or cracks. Looks great for use or display.
