Arabia Finland MOONSHINERS Ceramic Carafe and Two Goblets In an Original Package, Pattern by Alarik Alariesto

  
Here is available a rare set from arabia finland: all the pieces are remaining in perfect condition - even an original package is included. The carafe and goblets are made of hard faience. The cap/lid is made of finnish pine (usually it is missing). An original cardboard package is in excellent vintage condition with only few worn areas. Richard lindh designed the itemsmodel. Arabia finland produced this item only for two years in 1985-1987.

The moonshiners (pontikankeittäjät) pattern was designed by alarik alariesto (part of his painting). Alarik alariesto (1900-1989) was a lappish working man. As a hobby he painted lappish old living style - not with artistic ambition but to save that transient culture.

He had no education for painting, so his naïve style is frank and strong (probably meant not to be naïve). As naïve art became popular in the seventies, his paintings got recognition. His first art exhibition was kept in 1975, when he was already 75 years old. On the carafes back side appears alariks thought/text in finnish. Translated to english it means.

In the old times they brought spirits from the woods, and the hostess from the neighborhood. Height 210 (240) mm / 57 mm. Carafe bottom sides 65 mm x 140 mm.

Goblet mouth diameter 50 mm. Volume about 70 cl / 5 cl (7 cl as filled full). Weight 860 g / 60 g, the whole set 1200 g.

Material: hard faience, pine cap, cardboard package, pattern made by serigraph technique. This set is probably unused: no marks of usage (except the outer bottom). The package is just a little worn.

Notice: the cap does not fit perfectly on the carafes mouth. There is some extra space between them, but it was designed that way (the ninth picture).
