French antique louis philippe mint green opaline glass and gilded service de nuit/tumble up/carafe and glass/nightstand set circa 1860's. This is a beautiful and typically french antique known as a service de nuit, a simple but ingenious design of a carafe and matching glass that fits snugly over the top of the carafe, very neat and serves the practical purpose of keeping dust or fly's out of your night time beverage and practical for the purposes of topping up, they usually sat on peoples night stands or bed side tables and most commonly water would be the beverage of choice but also not uncommon for them to contain an evening digestif of wine, cognac or a pastis.

This example is stunning in beautiful mint green opaline glass with a gilded design of vine leaves and grapes all the way around on both the glass and the carafe. The piece is in good antique condition with no cracks, chips or nibbles, just some wear on the gilding, the piece dates from the louis philippe period, from around the 1860's. Gorgeous and decorative piece, use it for it's intended purpose as a beautiful night service for you or your guests bedside table. The carafe holds around 1 litre of liquid.
