This is a wonderful vintage hand carved bamboo stalk carafe. The carafe has a top handle which is wrapped with bamboo. The carafe is in like new condition without scratches, marks, blemished, or cracks. The surface is a beautiful reddish brown color with its natural wood grain visible. The carafe was never used for its intended purpose. The carafe could be used for sake, water, tea, or spirits. The carafe measures approximately 15 inches tall by 4 inches in diameter by 9 inches (carafe holding portion). The handle measures approximately 2-3/4 inches tall by 1/2 inch in diameter. The carafe has two stickers underneath which read "made in japan" and "utsuwa" logo and "japan". The carafe was made in japan circa 1980's. Use my pictures to determine condition for yourself. The japanese word utsuwa literally means vessel or container, and commonly refers to any kind of cup, plate, dish, or pot. The word seems to have an onomatopoeic quality of softness and roundness when uttered, mimicking the shapes of the objects it signifies.
